Ongoing development of rural and remote ageing and aged care strategies and solutions embodied, exemplified by the following:
An Alternate Model of Aged Care for Regional, Rural and Remote Australia using North West Tasmania as an exemplar (Department of Health and Ageing 2009 to 2011).
Wheatbelt Integrated Aged Care Planning
Development of a suite of integrated aged care solutions for the Wheatbelt region of WA, with funding support from Royalties for Regions, WA Country Health (WACHS), Wheatbelt Development Commission, South West WA Medicare Local and Regional Development Australia (Wheatbelt).
Three distinct pieces of work were completed over the period 2011-2014 :
- Central East Wheatbelt Aged Care Solution
- Wheatbelt Integrated Aged Care Solution
- Wheatbelt Aboriginal Aged Care Framework
Based on the Wheatbelt-focused work, a WA statewide regional ageing and care strategy “Ageing in the Bush” was competed for WA Regional Development Council 2014 (data updated 2018 & 2021)
This body of work was considered by International Federation of Ageing Secretary General, Dr Jane Barrett (2016), to have provided the framework for implementing perhaps the largest scope of aged care initiatives in the world.

UPA have a strong focus in rural areas, and utilise an integrated ageing and aged care approach.
Older Persons Services and Accommodation

Planning for Rural Councils Victoria (34 local government areas).
This project included an economic analysis and impact of both retaining and attracting older people to each LGA.
